The Sorell PCYC Boxing Club (The Sorell Cobras) has only been in existence since the middle of 2006 and has been successful since its inception. The Club premises are located behind the Memorial Hall at Sorell, where the club has a small well equipped, boxing specific Gym and the use of a large hall for fitness, group exercises and games.
The Club operates every Monday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm or later, under the supervision of Senior Coach, Ralph BELBIN. There are also sessions on Wednesday and Friday evenings for those who have passed the beginner stage and who are interested in competition. These sessions often involve sparring and some of the more demanding exercises.
The Cobras is affiliated with Boxing Tasmania (Inc) which is approved by the International Amateur Boxing Association, Boxing Australia (Inc) and the Federal and State Government sporting bodies.
Sorell Cobras has promoted two tournaments during 2007 and has presented up to nine boxers per tournament in other tournaments they have attended during the year.
Head Coach Ralph BELBIN has been successfully coaching young boxers for more years that he cares to remember. His son Guy attained national recognition during the 1980’s and 1990’s by winning Australian Championships in his Weight Division.
Ralph is experienced in all aspects of Amateur Boxing and takes an active part in all training sessions conducted.
He is also the current President of Boxing Tasmania.
